NEW DELHI: Setting aside months of speculation, a top government official July 2  said the Blackberry mobile services do not pose a threat to national security, indicating a government go-ahead for its operation in the country.

“People are buying Blackberry. There is no threat from the Blackberry services,” Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura told reporters on the sidelines of a telecom summit here.

As much as smartphones are useful business tools, they’re also great fashion accessories; whether they employ a bold stylish, rugged, or sleek business-friendly design. Research in Motion’s popular BlackBerry Curve, which is arguably the model targeted more toward business users than it is to the average consumer, is now available for a limited time through Rogers Wireless in a subdued, pink finish.

    Apple or BlackBerry

They’re the Cadillacs of smartphones, and the choices of the über-hip. How do you decide whether to go the iPhone or BlackBerry route?

    Smartphones start to swarm

Its ability to make emails available on the road turned the humble BlackBerry into a must-have business gadget and spawned a legion of workers who wouldn't want to go anywhere without their "Crackberries".

Review: the new BlackBerry Pearl 8110

Rumour has it that Apple's new 3G iPhone is going to sport GPS functionality when it's launched next week. But even if that is the case, Apple won't be the first big smartphone manufacturer to add GPS to its product.

That's because in the BlackBerry Peal 8110, RIM has added GPS hardware in order to make it that bit more appealing to the mass market.

Research in Motion (RIM) Ltd’s BlackBerry increased its share of the U.S. smartphone market in the first quarter, while Apple Inc’s iPhone lost ground, according to a report from the global market research firm IDC. Apple iPhone’s market share in the smartphones category in the US is currently at around 19.2% percent, a plunge from 26.7% the quarter before.

    DWTC picks Etisalat BlackBerry service

DWTC (Dubai World Trade Centre) has selected Etisalat BlackBerry service to create a powerful and convenient mobile solution for staff to have access to the latest information to serve clients and help in their overall business efforts.

With this, DWTC joins a growing and diverse base of more than 40,000 business users who continue to enjoy connectivity while on the move, said a company official.

BlackBerry's been everywhere recently, with their upcoming Bold phone to take on the iPhone and their Touchscreen Thunder also rumoured for a release later this year.

But if you're after a HSDPA-enabled Blackberry and don't want to wait for either of those models to launch, you could always download BlackBerry Connect onto a Motorola Q9h.

IBM to offer business intelligence via BlackBerry

BOSTON (Reuters) - IBM said on Wednesday it has started selling software that lets customers access its Cognos business intelligence software via BlackBerry mobile devices.

This summer will be an exciting time for AT&T’s cellphone customers as both Apple and Research in Motion are expected to introduce new 3G smart phones which, while stylistically different, will compete ear-to-ear.

AT&T is the sole U.S. distributor of the Apple iPhone, which is popular with mainstream consumers but hasn’t been widely adopted by business customers in part because many e-mail junkies find its on-screen virtual keyboard hard to use. RIM’s BlackBerry models, on the other hand, are famed for their easy-to-use keyboards, and as soon as this summer, AT&T will offer the new BlackBerry Bold, which adds GPS, Wi-Fi and multimedia features to the more spartan traditional ‘Berries.
